Paraplanning · Advice operations · AI

The future of advice.
AI, paraplanning & people.

I’m Doore John Amodia, usually DJ. My background spans paraplanning, advice operations and offshore team management for Australian financial advice practices.

I use AI for research and document preparation, then check the output against the source material. Missing information stays marked for follow-up.

01 / Advice preparation

Retirement age
is only half
the comparison.

A brief asks for retirement at 60 versus 65. One scenario includes part-time earnings; the other does not. Before running the numbers, I would clarify what the adviser wants to compare.

Before modelling

“Should earnings be the same in both scenarios, or are we comparing two work patterns?”

Fictional brief. No client information or calculated outcomes.

See the capacity example

Scenario A

Retire at 60 with part-time earnings

Full-time work ends
Age 60
Employment afterwards
Part-time assumed
Earnings amount
Not supplied
Spending
Not supplied
Account balances
Not supplied

Confirm whether part-time work is the intended assumption.

Scenario B

Retire at 65 with no employment earnings

Full-time work ends
Age 65
Employment afterwards
No employment income assumed
Earnings amount
Not supplied
Spending
Not supplied
Account balances
Not supplied

Confirm that no employment earnings is the intended assumption.

Age and earnings both change.

No amounts yet.
Leave them open.

How many tasks fit into nine hours?

An illustrative planning exercise, not a claim about my availability or measured productivity.

Allow time for review.

Of 12 allocated hours, reserve 3 for coordination and review. That leaves 9 hours for tasks.

Weekly time allocation Hours · illustrative

12 hours − 3 hours = 9 task hours

Review time belongs in the plan.

Change the handling time.

The same 9 task hours produce a different count when handling time changes. Try the assumption below.

12 whole tasks / week

3 tasks beyond indicative capacity.

Calculation: 9 × 60 ÷ minutes per task, rounded down. The queue of 15 requests is illustrative. Complexity, rework and reviewer availability can change capacity.

03 / AI-assisted preparation

Where AI helps me.

I use AI to organise source material and prepare drafts. I still need to check the figures, trace statements to their sources and identify what is missing.

An unanswered question is still unanswered after AI has written a draft.

Example approach only. This is not an employer’s internal process or a financial recommendation.

Tools I have worked with

XPLAN is my strongest and longest-used advice platform, followed by AdviserLogic. My experience also includes Worksorted, Dash, Optimo, ProductRex, Microsoft 365 and SharePoint, alongside generative AI tools.

At home with DW Outsourcing

Her business. Her proud husband.

AI-composed family portrait of DJ, Lover Mae and their dogs, Takopi and Marco
Lover Mae, me, Takopi and Marco.AI-composed from our family photos.

Lover Mae runs DW Outsourcing and Dorika Wealth. She’s the CEO. I’m her loving, supportive husband. And very proud of her.

My other title? Free consultant for life. Apparently, that came with marrying a very entrepreneurial wife. There’s no getting away from the package deal. Happily, I wasn’t looking for an exit.

Most of that “consulting” happens over coffee or in our late-night talks before we sleep: an idea she wants to try, a question to work through, or a plan that needs another pair of eyes.

She makes the business decisions and leads client conversations. I listen, offer a view and help where I can. Like plenty of proud husbands, I’m simply backing the person I married.

No consulting invoice. Coffee is appreciated.

What we talk through

The people. What does an advice practice need help with, and who would be a good fit?

The work. What needs to be clear before anyone starts?

The next step. What can she try, and what still needs checking?
